Hill Country Birding

Talula Mesa Glamping Resort is a favorite destination to spot rare birds

Our sprawling, shaded acres and trails are a birdwatcher's paradise. Located near the Balcones Canyonland Preserve (the BCCP), this area near Lake Travis's north shore is largely undeveloped, making Talula Mesa a perfect headquarters for birding adventures.

Talula Mesa's property is a unique mix of open hill country grasslands, prairie, wooded areas, streams, and ponds. Add in Lake Travis and you've got a recipe for an unusually large variety of birds in one place.

Whether you want to hike the trails, explore the nearby wildlife refuge, or spot birds from the comfort of your glamping tent porch (or hot tub, or plunge pool), our glamping guests have been thrilled with the diversity and abundance of birds they've spotted while glamping at Talula Mesa.

Below is a list of birds spotted at Talula Mesa Glamping Resort near Austin (78 species and counting). If you spot a new one, please let us know so that we can add it to the list. Photos are welcome; I'm a terrible photographer, so these are photos from All About Birds, Cornell's birding site.

The birds are not listed in any particular order. To search for a specific bird species, it's best to use the control+F function.
